  • Not just another Spanish death stoner hybrid.

  • Hailing from Spain, four-piece metal outfit MOKSHA does not muck around. The band released their debut album “Antaryamin” in 2002, and this release is already their 4th album (which does make them quite prolific). I have not heard any of the band's previous releases (hell, I don’t think I have heard any Spanish metal period). But I'll give you my thoughts on the tunes just the same.

This release does have a real rock feel to it and is most definitely metal (quite heavy metal at that). But the basic rock grooves make it accessible for lovers of most of the diverse heavy music factions: hard rocker, so -called stoner rockers, doomsters, death metal heads, even traditional metallers could find something in this album that tickles their fancy.

At times it reminds me of some later day SEPULTURA or ENTOMBED, not only in the way that the band rocks out but also in vocal style. Much of the riffing has a stoner rock feel to it, think lighter ELECTRIC WIZARD moments or UNIDA with more of a metal edge.

"Supersilver Haze" is a quality release. Their bio seems to indicate that the band has toned it down a couple of notches. Apparently they were quite extreme in their earlier days. The CD is being marketed for the stoner/doom crowd but I think there are enough of the growls and aggression to still satisfy the folks that just prefer their tunes heavy and aggressive.
