  • A psychkraut shoegaze experience?

  • This is the second solo album from Joao, who used to be a member of the Norwegian outfit Kare and the Cavemen. “Don’t Don’t” opens the show with some pretty riff-heavy STOOGES-esque psych. “Jupiter In Flux” brings it down a bit with some nice keyboard florishments. All the instruments are well placed in Kare’s now 6-piece ensemble that currently refrains from playing live and uses the studio as it’s main outlet for artistic expression. The bassist knows how to hold down busy melodic high notes that do not get in the way of the band’s overall sound - not unlike the bass playing on THE ZOMBIES 1968 swan song epic “The Oddessy and the Oracle”. SPIRITUALIZED, SPACEMEN 3, some early MONSTER MAGNET, NEU, RIDE, A.C. ACOUSTICS, BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB, PRIMAL SCREAM and slight hints of “Flying Teapot” era GONG are some reference points that make sense I suppose. If psych, shoegazing action and hints of Krautrock are your bag, then you really cannot do much better than this. If you like anything and all things creative, then the Jester / VME / The End family of labels are very trustworthy time and time again.
