THE G.A.T.E.S. from Japan were formed in 2002 by drummer Fukawa (from SONIC FLOWER) and guitarist Futatsugi, to play music inspired by MOTÖRHEAD and TANK. Also present were CHURCH OF MISERY-bassist Tatsu and former singer Yoshiaki Negishi. Their only releases were a split with METAL SKULL and one very sought after demo. They played one gig in 2003 and then disbanded. Due to many requests they decided to release a CD containing all tracks from the releases mentioned above. And this became "Total Death"! Was there ever a more appropriate title? ‘Raw Satanic Death Thrash Rock' is what the press info calls it and I couldn't have said it any better. Like a seriously pumped up version of MOTÖRHEAD, played and produced with all the subtlety of a train wreck. And to emphasize this they end with a great version of "Overkill". I don't know how those crazy Japs do it every time, but like GREENMACHINE and BORIS before them they manage to make me feel like that little kid again who hears VENOM for the first time. A great piece of brutal and primal metallic rock 'n roll, highly recommended for people who hate their neighbors!!
