Disillusion is a hard one to pin down. This German guitar/bass/drums (or in some cases guitar/guitar/drums) trio also employs sampled symphonic sonics as well as the occasional sequenced drum parts. The only close comparisons I can come up with would be THE YOUNG GODS, COP SHOOT COP and RAMSTEIN. At times Disillusion’s guitar sound, like the former, also appears to be sampled. The band’s bio does not make mention of influences or have one of those obligatory “for fans of” sections. “Gloria” has a whopping monolithic sound. Although the guitars are very dense and heavy, it’s more the drums that identify Disillusion as a metal act. A very distinct and bizarre metal monster.

“The listener is engulfed in an emotional maelstrom of rage, fear and passion, by vocals that are highly energetic yet disturbingly casual” is a description from the bio that I quite agree with. The vocals have a very unique style that really sets this act apart. At times their very German sound appears as if they are coming from a video game or the old kid’s game “Speak and Spell”. On one of the latter compositions it almost sounds like Eddy Vedder strangely enough. “It’s warlike in the streetlight and we elbow our way through the pale night” is an example of the lyrics these bizarre vocals emphasize ideas. The lyric sheet is stretched horizontally across five pages of the CD leaflet and it makes each track look like it has only a sentence or two. The other side of the leaflet has pictures of the band members in what appears to be stills from a video depicting them as spies I reckon. Interesting music should have interesting packaging to go along with it I suppose. This package is complete and, along with 3, this is one of the better bands on the Metal Blade roster. I’m liking it.
