  • BONGZILLA - "Amerijuanican", 2005 (Relapse)
  • Take a wild guess what this sounds like.

  • Finally someone did what I always wanted to do. Make a CD where the tracks flip multiple times during a song. 14 times in the first song alone. I tried it on "random" in my CD player in the car and it was pretty interesting. Various movements of all the songs randomly moving along. Anyways, BONGZILLA. Long running band, terrible band name. I guess I feel like as good as they are they need a better name. Something that brings to mind heavy, mindblowing, etc. Would make more sense than a name that seems like they thought of it in seconds.

I coulda just done this review by asking if you like "Vol 4" but wish Ozzy had Cookie Monster vocals. Because, that's what this sounds like. Heavy, varied, relentless downtuned rock 'n roll disguised as sludge. They are great at making that SABBATH sound leap to life unlike most bands who try to do this sort of thing and fail miserably. This just came out not too long ago. I'm sure I'm late and most likely the last person to review it but it's well worth hunting down. Relapse does a good job at being consistent with the releases. They always seem to dig out something good in the metal vein from all ends of the spectrum. Too bad Relapse never sent us the GENOCIDE SS or DISFEAR releases they did way back when. I might have to go out and buy them. Regardless, this will go into driving music rotation along with the LOOK BACK AND LAUGH disc and, of course, THE SHAGGS.
