On the surface “Sedimente” appears to be pretty typical grindcore/crust. It reminds you of the sound of the old days when death metal was extremely fast, unmusical, sloppy and well…kind of boring in my book. However, these guys do it with some regal class and avoid some of the pitfalls of that era’s sound. For starters they are musically more diverse. They go in different directions when they are coming from point A. Once they arrive at point B it’s just blast beats. The blast beats do their job and do them well. What l like is that point A has quite a bit of that “Peter Gun” type surf punk. There are some noisy post-punk and post-hardcore stylings in point A as well. Sometimes it’s just straight up rock. These guys started in 1995 and are only now releasing their first full-length. This may have been a good idea because it was done right.
The production is so raw and perfect. It is very dry and every instrument comes out evenly in the mix. And yes that includes the bass guitar. The bass is very in-your- face I might add. For the guitar to be so grungy and full of midrange, you would think the bass would get lost in the mix but it does not. The bass seems to get lost on plenty of more "produced" extreme metal recordings and this album is concrete proof that it is more by choice than anything else at this juncture. The fidelity is like that of the better hardcore punk recordings from the early to mid 80’s (latter day MINOR THREAT, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES' debut, DRI’s “Dealing With It”, etc.). The disc is pretty short and clocks in at about the half hour mark. It definitely leaves this listener wanting more.
