I would like to take this opportunity to thank Peacedogman.com for exposing me to my new favorite band, MOTHER SUPERIOR! This is a celebration of all that is righteous and holy about rock n’ roll music. Real songs performed by real musicians. Whatta concept!

The thing that struck me most about this disc was the rhythm section. Drummer Matt Tecu makes it sound easy. He has huge bag of chops, but his feel and time is really what sets this band apart from the rest of the flock. His relaxed meter surges along perfectly, as he joins bassist Marcus Blake in a synthesis reminiscent of vintage Kramer/Hamilton. They’ll have that foot tappin’ in no time.

That’s not to say this disc relies on only individual performances to sell it. The songwriting is top notch and memorable, as well. In fact, I’d be hard pressed to find one clunker on here. From the bluesy rock groove of opening track “This Song Reminds Me of You,” to the somewhat Beatles-y ballad “Not For Me To Say,” to the prime AC/DC stomp of “Meltdown,” there is not a filler track to be found. The highlight of the disc has to be the final cut, “Jack the Ripper.” I don’t know what it is about Saucy Jack, but he always inspires rock bands to write their most dramatic and over-the-top material. This almost makes me wish more people would kill hookers so that more bands would write better songs! (Just kidding, FBI!)

The strings that signal the start of the album match the section the very end, which leads me to believe that “Moanin’” was designed for repeated listens. Fine by me! This disc was in my car stereo on repeat for three days, and I never made a move to change it. That’s saying a lot! This record is a living, breathing testament to rock that flies in the face of all the soulless, pro-tooled nonsense out there today. I liked this record, and I don’t like anything! Go buy it!
