Featured sites:

THE RIPPLE EFFECT: As our constant, relentless search for wise musical sources ensues, it becomes tempting to lower the standards. Where is the writing? Where is the passion? Where is the non-product-pushing musical geekery? Well, just when I'm about to succumb, I stumble upon THE RIPPLE EFFECT. Click for more...

SCANNER ZINE: It's tough sometimes to find a balance between the down 'n dirty world of the punk rock lifestyle and a reliable, well-crafted web source. In fact, this site comes all the way from New Zealand, but it's a definite winner for those seeking to keep up with the world of kickass punk and hardcore. Click for more...

WORMWOOD CHRONICLES: Mike Korn, (also known as Dr. Abner Mality) is a long-time dog site aquaintance. Over the last few years, he's created perhaps the ultimate lo-fi, e-based monument to bizarre music and kitschy, underground horror themes. Plus, there's an enormous amount of quality content to enjoy. Click for more...

KVLTBLOG: While I'm not in the position to outsource my reviews or features to another country just yet, the Indian web gurus at kvltblog would be high on the list of possibilities if such a situation comes to pass. The site is a highly interactive, simple-to-navigate page featuring reviews and user comments on comics, movies, books, and especially the latest extreme metal music scores. Click for more...

NOLA Underground: Not even the unspeakable devastation of Katrina could keep this site from spreading the good word. From the home of all things sludgy and heavy oozes Nola Underground, one of the web's most comprehensive sources of information on New Orleans extreme music culture. Click for more...

Filth Ear Distribution: For those of you who have worn out your PHOBIA and BRUTAL TRUTH discs and long for another batch of rancorous, crusty grindcore, look no further than Belgian crust label Filth Ear. Click for more...

Texasmetalunderground.com: If you're interested in some legendary names of past Texas bands like DEVASTATION, HELSTAR, and WATCHTOWER, this is perhaps the ultimate source. Texasmetalunderground.com is a superb, and still developing, site that is introducing me to a rake of old school metal bands drawn from a period around the early/mid eighties. Click for more...

Punkturns30.com: With all the hundreds of websites and blogs dedicated to punk and postpunk, it's refreshing to find a source created by someone who was actually there, snapping photos of our favorite punk icons, capturing all the spite and liquor-driven energy of the era. Click for more...

Bill Leslie's Rock of Ages: So I was selfishly going link to link to link, trying to find a half-decent spot for some free downloads, and I stumbled across Bill Leslie’s “Rock of Ages” blog. The reason my mouse stopped was because I found myself staring at the album cover for SWEET’s “Desolation Boulevard”, one of my all-time desert island discs. Click for more...

Tangento.net This site does an admirable job of shining the spotlight on underground, obscure, and "extreme" music. In a world where America's programmed sheep blind their eyes, cover their ears, and settle into the easy lifestyle of sucking at the teat of packaged formulas like American Idol, anyone providing a forum in which some left-of-center media can be appreciated and promoted should be lauded with as much praise as possible. Click for more...

The BNR Metal Pages The site was created by Brian Russ (who was featured in our “Guitargument” section not too long ago). The alphabetical listings are the way to go and one could argue that this is the ultimate heavy metal bible. It is pretty damn well complete and I really like the way Brian puts each group’s lineup along with the album discography. Click for more...

Rockadrome: I'm sure Monster Records needs no introduction to the Peacedog crowd, but for the newcomers: Monster was a cool label that specialized in re-issuing vintage 70's rock and NWOBHM style stuff, like LEGEND and POOBAH. Now, Monster has reinvented itself as ROCKADROME, and the label and distro site is at, you guessed it, www.rockadrome.com! Click for more...

Ray Dorsey's Chaos Realm: Ray Dorsey, founder of Chaos Realm, is a good friend of us here at Planet Peacedogman and for good reason. He founded the fanzine Chaos (also been known by different variations of said name) in 1983. As such, he has a long history with the underground scene and a multitude of knowledge, which he gladly passes along with the massive array of reviews found within the Chaos Realm. Click for more...
